We Are Moving

~ You can find the previous entry of our road trip to Calgary here.

After our last visit to Calgary and a few conversations, we decided to move. It was a big step after 30 years in Vancouver, the city we love and also have many friends.

Here are the pictures of the trip from the West Coast to Calgary. The drive was absolutely spectacular.

05:20h – Georgia Viaduct and BC Place on the right
07:20 – the city is behind us

Shortly after 5 a.m. on November 1st, we set off to drive our car 970 km to Calgary. It was the last day before the roads across the Rocky Mountains would be covered in snow. We had filled the car to the brim with bed linen, a few towels for the first few days and our most valuable things. We also had enough food, water and blankets with us in case the weather changed early.

12:20h – Highway 1 (Trans Canada Highway) Shuswap towards Revelstoke, the mountains are becoming more and more stunning!
15:45h – between Banff and Canmore, Alberta
15:50h – Banff National Park

The drive over the Rocky Mountains was a dream. Having grown up in Switzerland and lived in Vancouver, I’m used to seeing mountains. But we were simply overwhelmed by the breathtaking beauty of the Rocky Mountains in early November. They were covered in snow. And every time we rounded a bend, more mountains were visible. It was a dream.

16:35h – Die Rockies are behind us, and the destination is about a hour out.
17:30h – destination reached.

We just arrived in Calgary for dinner. Dear friends of ours accommodated us for the night. It’s nice to have friends when you arrive in a new city. It provides a feeling of stability in an otherwise completely new environment. The next day we moved into our new apartment in a brand new building.

For the first few days we lived like students. The only piece of furniture we had was a rented bed and two chairs from our friends.

We look to forward to our future with great excitement.
