The Most Precious Christmas Gift Is Called Bruno

The picture above shows Bruno, seven months old, during his first photo session. It is one of my fondest images of him. He just wouldn’t hold still for a few seconds. Typical of our little Yorkie.

From the beginning. For many years, Klaus and I were dog sitters for several close friends when they went on vacation. We love dogs, but couldn’t commit to having our own. Why? For over 30 years I had four-legged friends in my life that I could take care of once in a while.

In Vancouver over the years we’ve had Dos Pesos, Maple, Carlos, TJ, Simba, and Charlie. Everyone was and is loving beings who always gave us a lot of fun when we had them and were allowed to pamper them. I’ve also often been asked when I’ll finally adopt my own dog. My answer has always been the same, I can’t decide to take responsibility. And so time passed. We looked after friends’ fur babies, but were always happy when we were alone again. Having a dog is a big responsibility, but they give so much back. They are absolutely lovable creatures.

A dog is the only creature
on earth that loves you
more than he loves himself.

We moved to Calgary in the fall. Close friends of ours came back from a short vacation and bought a Yorkie in October. They were then on vacation for a week and took the dog to the breeder for dog sitting. When they went to pick up their dog Liam, we were there too because we were invited to dinner with them. Liam was overjoyed to see his Humans again.

The breeder then asked us if we would also like a cute little Yorkie. She placed a little black doggy, Liam’s brother, on my arms. The two of us had a moment. The little black Yorkie melted and so did I.

Klaus and I thought about it for two days… Then I called the breeder and said we would like to adopt the little black one. Once all the boxes were unpacked, we brought him home on December 1st. And now we are parents to a small, bright bundle of energy. His name is Bruno when he obeys, otherwise he’s a little mutt. After a few days he felt so comfortable that he believed he was the boss here.

dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole.

And so we spontaneously became dog parents. It was love at first sight. Fortunately!

  • I believe that avoiding prepared foods is the first step to be able to lose weight. They can taste fine, but processed foods contain very little nutritional value, making you feed on more to have enough electricity to get throughout the day. If you’re constantly eating these foods, converting to cereals and other complex carbohydrates will let you have more power while eating less. Great blog post.
