Red and Purple – a Beautiful Combination for Christmas

The colours chosen for the 2018 Christmas season was red and dark purple. I had the desire for a bit more of a traditional feel around the house.

To add to the rustic décor I had in mind, I collected large spruce cones and fallen boughs at my favorite park.

The pinecones have to be soaked in hot soapy water overnight to make sure nothing will crawl out of them during the season. Let them dry on a pile of newspaper for a few days in a warm spot.

Since this arrangement has the feel of a little souvenir from the forest a wooden platter was chosen for display. In the middle is red pillar candle, wrapped with a dark violet ribbon. The spruce cones are combined with hand blown cone Christmas ornaments from Germany. They add a bit of sparkle when the candle is lit.
