Brown – Decorating and Gift Wrapping
After a few seasons of black & white, and Kraft gift wrapping it’s time for something different. How about brown? I think it’s a totally underrated colour choice when it comes to Christmas gift wrapping or decorating. A nice dark brown paired with a wide brown or ruby satin ribbon looks very elegant.
This was our tree 2005. It was mainly decorated with shiny and matte brown baubles. Hand blown pinecone and acorn ornaments, plus a few gold baubles were also included. The large satin bows in front of each candle add the needed drama to the to it. I wish I would have kept the brown baubles. But they were given away when we last moved.
This beautiful present wrapped in brown paper is decorated with a luxurious ruby ribbon. The card accompanying it, depicts a watercolour painting of mine from 1994.
The Flowers of La Grenouille by Charles Masson is a beautiful, eclectic little book showcasing the elaborate bouquets La Grenouille, one of New York City’s finest restaurants. Even though the book was published 1994 and is by now a look back on how flowers were arranged during that time. It also contains wonderful illustrations. It is the perfect gift for somebody who wants to reminisce about times past.
Cute little mobile made with kraft paper and gold glitter. The template is available on our Etsy store.
Another gift wrapped in brown. A wide brown satin ribbon was tied around this one. A sprig of hemlock pinecones was added as decor.
As an avid Christmas book collector, A Christmas Story by Richard Burton is one of my favorite ones. It’s not in perfect condition, because the dust cover was cut into pieces. But that’s ok, I collect the books for either the story or for who wrote it. Contemporary children’s Christmas books I buy based on their illustrations.
A Christmas Carol published in the early 1900 in London was a gift from a dear friend. All three books shown here are treasured, no matter the value. It just makes me happy to leave through them occasionally .
Old books make wonderful presents for somebody who loves books. One can discover so much in a vintage bookstore or a flea market. Treasures that you didn’t know existed. It’s worth a visit!

This postcard was sent in 1911 from a tiny town in Oklahoma to a bit of a bigger tiny town in Ohio. I wonder how long it took for that postcard to reach its destination. It’s 850 miles. Today we would send a text message.
